Choosing a design mat
Printed or inlaid?
Printed designs are dyed into the pile and soften with years of use. Inlaid designs are coir set into a molded rubber frame, so the pattern is the mat itself.
What size?
A mat looks right at about four-fifths of the door’s width or more. For a 36″ door that is a mat at least 30″ long. A half-round suits a single door best.
Where it works
Covered porches, entry halls and mudrooms. Keep printed mats out of full sun and standing water; the coir darkens and the print fades sooner.
