Choosing a coir mat
Woven or vinyl-backed?
Woven-backed coir is the heavy kind: it drains through and dries from both sides. Vinyl-backed coir is thinner, lies flat and stays put on smooth floors.
What size?
A mat looks right at about four-fifths of the door’s width or more. For a 36″ door that is a mat at least 30″ long.
Where it works
Covered porches, entry halls and mudrooms. In standing water or full sun coir darkens and wears sooner.
